You are in the right place.

It takes courage.

It takes courage to trust me with your story.  To share your “ugly” parts: the ones that you keep hidden, the ones that make you feel broken, unlovable.

Mine is a privilege that I do not take lightly.  For you, I will bring my authentic self: curious, empathic, open, honest.  I will ask questions not to judge but to understand and to grasp who you truly are:  your thoughts, your feelings, your experiences.

I will sit with you. I will feel it with you.  I will be a witness to your pain and your triumphs. You will not be in it alone.

And when you see yourself mirrored back through a lens of warmth, compassion, and acceptance, you will see that you are enough. You are lovable. You are in the right place.

And that is how you will heal.

My Therapeutic Style

is grounded in the belief that we have the ability to heal and thrive in a safe, supportive environment. It is my job to provide that environment for you, so if you don’t feel safe and supported, please tell me. I will always try to adapt to your needs.

What that means for you:

♦  I will seek to truly understand who you are, what you have experienced, how you think, and how you feel.

♦  I will accept you for who you are and will support you in whatever you are going through.

♦  I will encourage you to share “the good, the bad, and the ugly” about yourself.

♦  I will be genuine and transparent. I will be open and honest with you about my thoughts and feelings.

FAQ

Is this in-person or teletherapy?

I use teletherapy for the majority of my clients. Typically, we meet over video, but we can also talk on the phone, if you prefer.

Is there a difference between therapy and counseling?

Although they may have different meanings depending on the context, I use them interchangeably.  On this website, you can assume that they mean the same thing.

How do I know if I should go to therapy?

Here are some signs that you should make an appointment:
You frequently feel sad, anxious, or upset.
You have been withdrawing from your friends and family.
You don’t enjoy things like you used to.
Your grades have gotten a lot worse.
You are sleeping a lot more or less than usual.
You have been harming yourself (e.g. cutting).
You are thinking about suicide.

Counseling can help you achieve and maintain positive psychological wellbeing. That includes supporting you when you have small/temporary concerns, when you have big/long-term concerns, and when you don’t really have concerns and just want to understand yourself better.

How can therapy help me?

Therapy can help you gain insight, improve skills, set goals, and get support. In therapy, you can learn and practice new problem-solving or coping skills, increase self-understanding, explore life patterns, and gain a better sense of how you are influenced by your surroundings.

How do I get started?

Step One: Make sure that your state is on the list at the bottom of the page. I am licensed in Ohio, but I can also practice remotely in any of the PSYPACT states. If your state isn’t on my list, you might want to check to see if it will become a PSYPACT state soon.

Step Two: Schedule a quick phone call to determine if we might be a good fit. You can get a sense of what I’m like, and you can ask about any questions or concerns you have.

(I strongly encourage you to request a short chat with any new potential therapist or psychologist, including me. There are a lot of great clinicians out there, but you deserve one who is a good fit for you. A quick phone call can be a helpful tool in figuring that out without investing any money. Notice how you feel during and after the call. If something doesn’t feel quite right, it’s okay to look for someone else.)

Step Three: After our phone call, I will send you the paperwork you need to fill out before our first session. If you would like to make an appointment, you’ll complete the paperwork and return it to me. Then, you can schedule your appointment online.

Step Four: Just show up.
If we are meeting over video, you will receive an email with a link for our Teams Meeting. You will use that link to connect to our video session.

If we are meeting over the phone, I will call you at our meeting time.

Either way, all you really need to do is show up.  This isn’t an interview.  I will ask you questions, but there won’t be any “right” answers.

If you are super anxious or if you don’t have anything to say or if you cry or if you don’t cry or if you don’t click with me or…..Whatever you bring to our session will be okay.  I know that you’ll be nervous, but you will also soon realize that we are in this together.
