Psychological Assessment

Frequently Asked Questions

A formal psychological assessment includes a thorough history that includes your upbringing, your education, and your mental health.  It may include questionnaires that ask about specific symptoms or gather additional background information.  It may include “tests” that assess things like your memory, your thinking, or your IQ.

After gathering all of the information in the assessment, I will spend time reviewing and interpreting the information, so I can determine the most accurate diagnosis.

Then, I will write up a report, explaining everything that we did and all of the information that we found. Depending on the purpose of the assessment, I may include suggestions for psychological treatment or recommend accommodations for school or work.

I will give you my report, but I will also help you understand everything that is in the report.

There are various reasons that a formal assessment might be helpful.

Assessments can help determine a more accurate mental health diagnosis, which can better direct your treatment.

They can also help identify some learning differences that have been impacting your school (or later in your career).

A formal psychological assessment may be required for you to receive disability accommodations at school or at work. It can also help determine appropriate recommendations for those accommodations.

Step One: Make sure that your state is on the list at the bottom of the page. Dr. Belanger is licensed in Ohio, but she can also practice remotely in any of the PSYPACT states. If your state isn’t on the list, you might want to check to see if it will become a PSYPACT state soon.

Step Two: Contact Dr. Belanger to make an appointment.

After you schedule your session, you will receive an email with a link for our Teams Meeting. You will use that link to connect to our video session.

The first session will be a bit different than the rest and will only last 30 minutes.  We will start by going over the paperwork that you signed.  Then, we will talk about your specific needs and goals.

After reviewing your case, we will meet again for about 10 minutes (at no additional cost) to discuss your available assessment options and the associated costs.
